Mesoamerican Barrier Reef Pics

Got back from Cancun Mexico and went on a couple of different snorkeling trips along the barrier reef. This reef runs from Yucatan peninsula all the way down to Honduras, and is over 560 miles long, making it the second largest reef in the world. The seas where pretty rough and visibility was about 15' or so. So most of the pics appear murky because of all the sediment that was stirred up.

Very nice! I snorkled in Cancun 8 months ago and it was sweet. A lot closer than indo or aussie Love that ray pic!

Thanks! I was happy to get some pics of a few acropora too... Only two acropora species in the carib. I didnt see any elkhorn so the ones i got pics are Acropora cervicornis. Also got a cool pic of a boxfish of some type see pic 6 lower left corner

The stingray was pretty docile, you where able to pass him around and hold him. Pretty cool. The sargent majors (yellow and black stripped damsel) would escort you around the reef too hehe

great pictures. reminds me of my trip to cozumel and belize. wish i would have seen a stingray like the one photographed above.
