OK here is an Idea, I am sure there must be other reefers out there doing this.
so my sump has quite if but of "gunk and nastiness" I do, do my WC from there trying to vac. as much as I can but still build up.

so I have been thinking about socking it after watching the BRS tv on socks.
they came up with 3-4 days is the best time to change out the socks. so I was wondering if I could get the mess sock from BRS http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-mesh-filter-sock-with-plastic-ring.html
and then add some bulk pillow poly fill like this stuff:
https://www.amazon.com/Fairfield-Po...02134379&sr=1-1&keywords=poly+pillow+stuffing

and just toss it every 3-4 days and add new then rise the mess bag every water change.
I wounder if this would have the same effect as a 200M sock?
basically bypassing the washing of the socks.

thoughts/feedback?

opps sorry about the typos in the title...but you guys know that i meant washable not wastable mesh not mess...haha guess i should read my post before uploading.

anyway i am thinking this is a good idea anyone else?

I do know of reefers here using that poly fill i linked to . I guess they just rise it and let it dry before.

I was thinking more on the lines of impurities within the material from the manufacturing process as opposed to something that will wash off/out, but if you know for certain that it's being used without causing issues, then go for it. I know for certain that polyester filter fiber traps far more (and finer) impurities than socks, sponges, or pads.

Check out the recent build of a reefer 625 XXL on this site. It talks about what you're doing in a very clean way and available with a new product.

yeah those look real nice. my sump is no where near that nice but I still might look in to DIY something like that.
