Metal Halide and Air Conditioned Home

Hey, Im curious about halides and there heat production, I live in South Florida. I keep the house at 77 degree's most of the day and 76-77 at night. The tank I'm thinking of lighting is an SCA 66g 32X24X20 with no canopy. Im thinking of a using a single 250w fixture with no supplements for a 10-12 hour photo period. The house would be at 77 degrees for the first 8 hours of light and 76 for the last 4 hours before it shuts down for the night. The tank will be in my living room with a large open floor plan with ceiling fans as well away from windows.

Will not be an issue at all. The newer MH ballast’s do not cause build up of heat like the older fixtures and ballast did.

I mounted a Giesemann Ininiti 250W inside a canopy on my 37gal and had to run a chiller, after 4-5hrs the tank reaches 86

It’s more humid where you are. But I’m in central Texas. Temps from June through Sept are typically 98-100+ every day. I suck it up and run the AC at 74. I pay for it, but it’s worth it. I run 2x250 watt MH inside a canopy with two simple fans and the tank never gets over 79. The AC doesn’t even run constantly either.

if your gonna do leds do a Giesemann Aurora or GHL

I had 3 250 watt halides ina canopy in s florida. Ac is about 76. I needed a chiller

I think humidity is more a challenge than heat when it comes to evaporative cooling. You Florida folks are going to have a rough time without chillers
