Ok i purchased a metal halide pendant the other day for an amazing deal. It is a fishneedit.com 70w pendant and it has a 20000k bulb labeled htd 70w. The problem im having is that this light looks almost 6500k spectrum. Im not really into this color lol i like the 20000k look with the deep blue. Do you think it is the bulb that is making it look this way or is it another factor, plus the ballast says 75w on it, does this meen i can run a 75w DE bulb?

Well I'll chime in, I ran a 70watt viper a while back with a 14K bulb and it was really blue and it was a no name bulb from what I can remember, got it off Ebay , and if the ballast says 75w you should be able to

Its the bulb, not the ballast, and yes, you can throw in a 75w halide DE Bulb, I believe that Ushio has a 75w lamp.

Thanks guys, I guess i was a little thrown back cause the metal halide I had a long time ago had a 14000k bulb and it looked like it had a lot more blue then this. I am a t5 guy but love the metal halide shimmer so I figured id jump on this great deal. Ill get another bulb and update everyone on how it looks.

Yea, must have been one of the cheaper halides. With those, they kinda don't get the coloring correct.

Yea id say kinda is a little far off LOL it actually looks similar to my 6500k on my planted tank lol. Plus im use to my heavy actinic t5 setup

I got a cheapo once, bought it at 14k, and the thing was GREEN. I about fell off my chair when I turned it on.

LOL yea that would have probably done me in. Im hopeing that this 70w will be good enough for another 10G im getting ready to start building.
