I am considering using a metal halide/T5 combo on my 120 that I am in the process of planning. I am looking for suggestions of brands for the fixture and what bulbs you would recommend.

Retro-Fit or All-in-One?

Giesemann Spectra or Infiniti are really nice, good looking and also the most expensive. Hamilton Cebu Sun perform very well, but some complain about the form factor. Either of these are nice lights. You could look for some used units from AquaMedic or Sfilogi - they don't do lights anymore, but they were nice when they did.

For retro fit into your canopy, would need more details, but Hamilton makes a bunch of reflectors that mount up easy. LET might have the best T5 retro kits.

I have the Giesemann Spectra and love it. Two 250W Radiums, Two ATI Coral Plus and two ATI Blue Plus, and two Actinic Blue XHO Reef Brite strips one on each side. Mount 8 " above the water line. Set it and forget . You won't be disappointed. It completely turned my tank around.

I have a Giesemann Spectra 48" for sale if interested. It is an amazing fixture for sure

I have also seen people buy the old odyssey lights and gut the wiring if it needed and put new ballasts on it with good luck.

Bump on an old thread.....
