I have a neighbor who works at a LFS. I showed him my tank and he wants to scrape the glass with a razor blade to clean it for me. I wasn't really sure that was a good idea. Sure maybe at the store they do that all the time, but wouldn't putting metal in the tank cause some heavy metals to leech out into the water? Or is it not really a concern for a quick cleaning? Up to this point I've always been very strict about not having any metal in my tank or system components.

Not an issue. The blade should be thick enough, or have a backbone so it doesn't curve or cup and scratch the glass.
