I switched over to AF components 123+ about 2 months ago. I've been noticing a slow degradation of my acros. After numerous water changes with no improvement, i sent a water sample to Triton. My results show elevated levels of Tin, Copper, and Zinc.
Could this be the cause of problems?

Af componets are alk, calcium and magnesium?

If so id suspect your salt, and not af components. Whats the tds of your make up water?

Hey Cory,
I am certain that in the micro elements dosed in the Component 123, heavy metals are present. Here is what should be in the mix. This is the ingredients to Micro E. "Supplement contains concentrated heavy metals – manganese, vanadium, zinc, nickel, iron, chromium, cobalt & copper. Mixture of trace elements necessary for all marine organisms." Hopefully you are not using Micro E as it would be redundant to using Component 123, as the heavy metals in Micro E are also present in the Component 123. Also, traces of Copper Sulfate are present in Energy too. Cheers

Good to know. I wouldn't be adding that then. Easy for them to accumulate. Im not sure there is much biological use for most of those except maybe zinc, and iron. Good you found a possible cause.

At this point, I am only dosing Components 123, Pro Bio S and Np Pro. Weekly 20% waterchange using Probiotic salt. My acros started to loose PE and the skin started deteriorating ( looked coarse instead of smooth) are these symptoms of metal overdosing?

I too was having similar issues. Acros browning also once I went complete AF. Specifically when I switched from abc dosing to comp 123. Stopped the comp 123. I'm also beginning to think the aminos may need to be dosed at half dosage till the system is ULNS. Polyp extension is back with basic abc dosing but time will bring back the colors.

I had the same issue the day after starting AF. Corals browned and skin looked the same. I had to sell all AF products and go back to what I was doing. On another website I posted pictures of my BC "spainbow" go from the green with purple tips to turning all brown and rtn after starting AF.

I feel bad the OP had issues but I don't think the 123 + components are the cause . It's hard to put a finger on something when it appears from his posts he had dips going on for over a month , poss aefw , n now looking for direction to eradicate them.
Again I am sorry the OP is having a bump in tbe road with his tank .
I use a lot of AF products, even the one that contains copper . I have been using them in a nano tank since March . My colors r rich ..too rich imho but nothing close to adverse reactions the OP has experienced.
U can easily check my build thread for reference .
Again I no ties to AF but just use their products with decent not stellar results.

I'm not saying AF caused the entire problem. I'm just saying that the test results came back with high levels of toxic metals. My acros also started deteriorating after I switched from BRS 2 part to AF. it may be a combination of possible AEFWs and various other things, but those don't explain the high metal content in my water.

Also, I had my LFS dip some of my acros to check for AEFWs and he said he didn't find any and he thought my problem was water chemistry

I read the whole thing few times now. I understand that few things are not spot on but I also have points. As far I know and understand component 123 contain Cu and Zn but it does not contain Sn or tin. So whats your source of Sn? Next, ICP testing is for ions but how much of it is available in that form? A large part of copper generally stays in colloidal form and bound to organic material and hence not as lethal as we think. Copper and zinc can also come from our food source like phosphates. It would be nice to know the amount of Cu and Zn in the initial components but as you say you do water changes regularly so that should lower the amount. Its not only AF others like Zeovit also use them. I use almost everything including their AF build which contains Copper as well as component 123. I am using this programme since last 9 months and my acros never lost their color or growth. Actually their growth rate is good. I have some maricultured SPS who still retained their colour and growth. If you explain exactly what you are using including food and medicine and other stuffs it will be good figure out what is going on there.

I would not blame comp 123 for high levels of metals either. Especially if they are high enough to hurt acropora. I would look into other reasons of possible metal contamination. A few days of comp 123 shouldn't show much of any elevated numbers on a test. Maybe months of overdosing a certain component could show something.

Those metals look like a failing electrical component, I have seen this in the past cracked heaters, corroding pumps
the amounts of metals in the AF components is tiny, I also use ICP and the only ones i see since starting AF is Al and Zn the Zn is still below TRITON set point, which I never achieved before even when adding TRITON Zn the Al is coming from the products, but is still lower than reefs using AL99 from TRITON and AL can be removed with any GFO

copper can and does come from foods, some brands add it, however in this case the combination looks like those on an electrical item
if you ask on the TRITON group they will most likely suggest an electoral componet
