meteor shower cyphastrea—growth structure

Hey y’all.. I’ve picked up a nicely colored meteor shower cyphastrea, and he’s started to grow pretty rapidly.

I’m worried about it going In weird. Underneath the colony is a thick dense white bone looking structure, and not a piece of tile or frag plug. It has taken off pretty quick down the backside of the colony.

Does meteor shower cyphastrea Have a thick calcium make-up underneath overtime?

How would y’all go about making it look better?

They can get really thick. I wouldnt worry as it will soon cover the exposed areas

They are a stony coral, they have a skeleton. A cyphastrea of mine looked the same way, like a cube on a plate, I eventually (after enough growth on the rock below to survive on its own) took the cube off and cut it up into slabs, one for each side.

I fault the vendors for cutting them that way, maybe looks better on a fragrack, but less so in landscape
