MG at 1600+

Why is my MG so high?
I was using Aquaforest Reef salt that had higher MG but have now changed to Aquaforest Sea Salt with less MG and yet my MG is still at 1600+

Ok, SO I just read WC with the new salt mix should reduce it in time.

It’s probably just test error.

If you have not dosed it in large amounts, the only possibilities are test error or a salt mix with excessive magnesium. Test error is very common.

I’d personally just ignore magnesium, but if you want to pursue it, test some new salt water. If that’s normal and tank is high, water changes will reduce it slowly.

1600 isn't an issue, no need to worry.

Back in the day we used to purposely raise MAG to 1600+ to combat bryposis with a certain mag product. No one ever had an issue with MAG that high.

I still think it’s the test. Many magnesium tests are not reliable. Red Sea especially seems to cause folks issues.

I gave the only two possibilities above. No, rock is not a source for that sort of level.
