Hey all,

New to this forum and had a question for those of you who have owned the Cayman Sun by Hamilton, or a DE MH all together.

I received my new 400W today from BRS. The DE bulb was shattered on the ends. I have never owned a DE MH before, so I wanted to ask if this is commonplace or are the bulbs very fragile, etc? They are sending me another and hopefully it won't be broke, doubtful, but just wanted to get thoughts on the fixture itself and the bulbs.

I am replacing an LED fixture, going back to MH. It has been a while though.

Thanks for any input.

I have had de in the past and have never had issues with the shipping breaking them. I have had issues with installing them. Since you have to apply pressure while installing them i have broken them several times at the ends. Always at the ends where you have to apply pressure.

I have switched to se after my led trial. The se is more fragile on the bulb portion but much easier to install.

I do not have those fixtures but was looking at them but were too big for my canopy. The se fixture is much bigger then the de.

Thanks for the detailed reply Tab. The box was in great shape, so I am thinking it was just a bulb that burst in shipping somewhere down the road.

So looking at that connector, it seems I might be able to slide something in the fixture and loosen it up a bit before sticking the bulb in? I sure don't want to break it.

You have to be careful because you still need the socket to be able to hold the ends tight or the bulb will be loose and fall out or not light correctly. On my i had issues with one end bring just a bit too far off. This caused the distance between the fixture to be just a hair too far for the bulb. I had to realign the sockets. Even that was just a bit too much. Had to take my canopy down every time to change bulbs since it is hard to apply pressure on fixture unless it is on floor. Just only apply pressure on the ceramic ends equally at same time never on the glass parts

I will be sure and let you know how it does tomorrow. Definitely have to be careful with them.
