How do you like these bulbs? I was thinking about ordering them..
I love my 20k radiums.

Here is a pic of my sps at 3 months in under 400w 20k radiums, VHO, and LED:
(Excuse the algae as I had a bad RO/DI membrane that was not working)

I'm just worried to buy the bulbs, from what I've read, radiums aren't supposed to go with electronic ballasts but they will work and just have lower PAR measurements and shorter life span. My question is, what's the next best thing?? XM 20k? I do like a little bit bluer of a look but not too much. Ahhhh this is such a hard choice!!

Running a 250w radium on a hqi ballast will be fine, it's what is recommended since the m80 ballast isn't widely available anymore. You can also run it on a standard m58 electronic ballast but it will be underdriven and need to be swapped out more often (6-8 months depending on burn time)

The m80 runs at 330w
Hqi ballast runs at 276w
M58 runs at 249w

Yeah this is what I've read. Thanks. I have Hamilton electronic ballast's, think I should give it a shot or go for a different bulb choice?

ahh bummer. Some of the more common bulbs for sps tanks are 10k XM, 14k ushio, and I have been craving to try the new reefbrite twin arc

Thanks for the input man ! I was thinking of going with the XM 20ks, I heard that the XM10ks are a great bulb with awesome PAR measurements but i'm not a big fan of all the white. I can't find any par measurements with the 20 K's and Hamilton ballast.

I would personally do ushio 14k's and add some heavy blue LED supplement. But one thing I forgot to ask, how deep is your tank?

Check this guy out. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-04/jb/index.php

The Hamilton ballasts are going to be somewhere between the Blueline E ballast and the Icecap ballast. You will have to decide if 30% par is worth a longer lifespan bulb. Of coarse this is an old study and it does not count for bulb modifications over the last 8 years.

Just an edit as I re-read this post. Stick with that radium you ordered. Eventually I would shift over to luxcore or another select a watt ballast but for the time being stick with what you have.
