Good Afternoon,
This is my first post on REEF2REEF so please be gentle :D.

I have a 1000L tank that has been running since the end of May. Virtually all of the equipment (except for the lights)
I have both of the downpipes going into an X filter 1.7 (which is a more sofiscated UK version of a Clarisea).
This flow into the same chamber as this is where my Nyos 220 skimmer.
I have noticed that within the last couple of weeks, I appear to be getting some form of film on the surface of the water in the DT.
It seems to be mainly consisting of micro air bubbles and there seems to be quite a few of them floating around the tank.
If I turn the skimmer off, the micro air bubbles in the sump stop and the film/slick at the top of the tank reduces, so in my eyes the release of bubbles is definately down to the skimmer.

The skimmer was brand new when it was installed at the end of May and I have not experienced this issue before.
I tried putting some filter floss in the baffle between the skimmer chamber and the return pump, however I found that this heavily restricted the water flow into the return chamber.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a NYOS 160 in my Red Sea S650, and I also have the NYOS 300 in a new system.

What I can tell you is around 2 months ago the 160 basically started failing, I didn’t notice at the time, as you sort of look at it, it’s was working, but it doesn’t look quiet right I thought. So I cleaned it, then 4 weeks later I cleaned it again and it was not better.

it was producing micro bubbles coming out of the back underneath, and also the bubbles rising in the chamber were not as ‘frothy’ as they once were, and were more like fizzy water Inside it.

I actually ordered a new pump and impeller, but because of a potential delay I also ordered a new 160 as well, and as soon as I installed it the difference was obvious. Back to full ‘frothy’ bubbles and silence.

it might not be the same in yours, but if the bubbles aren’t rising as they once were, and the fizzy water, maybe it is the impeller or the pump. NYOS support said it was the impeller, but to be honest I think they were guessing.

And Welcome to R2R as well!

Thanks for the pointers.
I will look at stripping it in the next couple of days and see how it goes.
It's only just over 7 months old, so if its faulty it would definitely be under warranty
