I have tried growing Chaeto three times and have failed. Each time micro algae out completes the Chaeto and chokes is out until the Chaeto turns into a green slime. I have tried all the solutions on this forum I could find. (large initial clump, proper light schedule, high nutrients, good flow, etc, etc.) Basically I have given up so I am not looking for tips on how to grow chaeto.

However, I have noticed that microalgae thrives in my fuge. My question is: are there other reefers out there who find success just growing micro algae in the fuge. In theory it seams that micro would perform the same function as macro, and scrubbers work on this same concept. But I dont see much/any precedent for this approach.

I think this is already done without being very aware of it.
In some sense an Algae Turf Scrubber exports macro + micro algae. You create good growing conditions on a surface and you scrape the surface harvesting whatever grows. It will be "turf" macroalgae but also there will always be some amount of diatoms, cyano etc cells on the macroalgae that gets harvested.
