Thank you Cruz_Arias. Salinity drop wasn't so bad a few weeks ago just can't figure out what I did. Who knows it's fixed now 1.025 ...... No one worse for wear
 
How often do u change the air stone?

We have noticed from using this method, the wooden air stone typically lasts approximately 3 months due to the wood decomposition in saltwater... after all, it is organic.

We use the Oceanic or Sanders wooden air diffusers because these are typically made of a harder wood than the LEEs

Thank u i just started using Lee's last night. Just wanted an idea of how often they need changed. I'll have to get a better brand next time.
 
I wanted to give this a try, but so far I've only seen setups with a sump.
Is it possible to achieve similar results without a sump?
 
I'm really interested in doing this. Where can I get good instructions as to how to set this up. Any help would be really appreciated.

If you start at the beginning there are different methods but a basic Lee's air stone held down with a pvc plumbing t in the same section as my return pump over night is my method

Thank you. I see some people use check valve. Why do I need that? Or better yet do I need to adjust the flow? I'm planning on putting the air stone in front of the return pump (I think that's the convention).

So where do we put the air check valve and the needle valve?
 
I think it's supposed to increase pressure and reduce the size of the bubbles, but I get results with what I have. I don't know where the check valve goes. But yes that is the correct air stone

The check valve is just a precaution.

The needle valve is the airline valve typically between the air pump (located in a fresh air location... not on the floor or in the sump) and the air stone...

Yes, but you'd need to reduce the air flow considerably.

Just an airline an air pump and an airline valve is all you need for a sumpless system.

We're working on creating a diagram for this method which works just as well. :)
 
The Tetra Deep Water Versions or the Coralife Luft Pump is what we typically suggest. Or even the Tom's Aqualifter Pump.
We control the air volume with an airline valve...

I can't get find a PSI rating for the Tetra AP150 or AP300, and the coralife pumps are more money, and are probably made in the same factory.
