Micro Brittle Star Breeding Tank

I like the characteristics of the micro stars. It never thought about a dually trying to set up a breeding tank. Nice thread.

Wow who knew there was a market. I usually kill quite a few every time I clean my pumps. I try and save a few but every time I drop the them in vinegar more pop off. Even if you don't need powerheads in the tank might want to consider sticking 1 or 2 in. I always have a ton in mine.

well, probably about 30-40, but 20 of them are sold. the remaining 10-20 are going to be kept as breeding stock for future orders. these things multiply really fast, so I estimate ill have lots very soon.

yes, very. I have every type of coral in my tank (LPS,SPS, and soft) and they never hurt them. they are 100% reef safe for sure

heres some pics for you. just got done collecting a bunch more from my display.

Mine spawn at least once a month. I never knew they spawned until one day I seen them releasing their stuff into the water and making it cloudy. They all come out of the rocks at the same time and last about 30 minutes or so.

Wow, I never realized I had $3,000,000 worth of micro brittle stars in my tank. And to think, I’ve just been giving them away by the handful to people.

When you go to harvest you’ll probably find it easier if you can easily disassemble their hiding spots, like having a bunch of empty frag plugs or discs on frag racks, or smooth rubble.

Update!
Hello all! I have some exciting news to share. I recently made an order from Bulk Reef Supply and they accidentally messed up my order. I ordered a dosing reservoir, but I received a Mr Aqua rimless bow front glass aquarium. I called them about it and they happily sent out my reservoir. As compensation for my troubles, they told me to consider the aquarium as a gift from BRS. I was like, Holy Moly!! lol. so now I have this beautiful bow front aquarium for my brittle star breeding tank! It is 7.5 gallons, which is much better and easier to care for than the 20 gallon I had them in. Any way, I moved all of the stars over today, busted up the rock into little pieces so its easy to find them, and propagated a few more large ones I found. Heres my new setup:

they love these filter media with holes in them

a cool photo I got of one I propagated 2 days ago. it is healing well and is already eating.
