Wondering about getting some micro brittle stars in my nano tank. Wondering what is the benefit of these little guys ? Do they go to town and eat detritus that well ? Will they overpopulate and breed like crazy if I do get them ? Will they mostly be in the sand bed or rock work ? I wouldn’t want them breeding and betting high in numbers maybe want to keep 5 to 10. If they do get out of hand can anything bring them back down. Maybe harliquin shrimp ?

I have tons and rarely ever see more then their legs sticking out from holes in the rock bit see their legs all the time. Before their population took off I had a bunch of bristle worms, now I rarely see worms. Not sure if they can really over populate, pretty sure they will balance with the amount of excess food fed.

Which kind do you mean? The mini black ones or the micro white ones? Former are quite useful and generally enduring. The latter tend to explode and then die off. They usually live in the detritus accumulations so not so useful though rather cool. Harlequins do not eat bristle stars.

Coral Banded Shrimp eat micro starfish. Detrivores are always beneficial. If too many is disturbing for you, then don’t feed the tank, because their population depends on available food.

They are great have a ton of them. Just see their legs stick out when tank
Is fed.
