Honestly, I have millions, not even exaggerating! My main contents(rocks/some corals/etc) have been going for 13+yrs.

Are they to the point of being unsightly with that many or do they still hide themselves really well?

You have to look very VERY close and you’ll see their arms, but the average person will probably NEVER see them . Most of mine I pull from my sand bed to be honest. I use a medium grain size so they hide down in there also. Much easier to remove also.
