oh wow... I misspelled Goniopora in my title thread.... I don't know how to fix it ... anyways
I feel dumb asking this....but, I can't seem to find a clear answer. I want to know the difference between a Micro Goni and Goniopora. I thought I knew but, maybe I'm wrong... Here's my thoughts (what I've been told); That micros were smaller (baby polyp) of Goniopora. However, .... I'm wondering is a micro (actually) Alveopora. I know that Alveopora have 12 tentacles on each polyp and Goniopora have 24/both in same family.......Is Alveopora a Micro Goni? Or, is a Micro Goni a smaller colony/polyp/frag (baby version) of Goniopora? My micro frag is quite small, I'm not sure of the exact count (of tentacles) but it looks to be closer to 12 vs. 24. But, it's hard to tell, it's so small. Any help would be greatly appreciated ;0)
If I'm completely off base...I want to know. I've confused myself at this point. lol
Thanks :)

i think its mainly tentacle size . the micro gonis dont really extend much and are almost like fuzzy encrusters while the long polp ones will give you the "flowy" look. i have both in my tank!

The is the short tentacle gonipora species vs long tentacle goniporas.

I believe you are thinking the micro gonis may actually be the short tentacle gonis.

thanks! I have 1 regular size Goniopora (flowy/24 tentacles/about softball size) But, the micro goni is new to me. I got a small frag during a live sale. I thought I was getting a smaller Goniopora, to contrast color ... in my original one. Can they touch? Or, allow extra space? The tentacles are approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches (on my original Goni.)
thanks, for the help! :)

Micro gonis look like Gonis but are something else. But can’t remember what their actual name is.
I would give it plenty of space between your Goni and your micro as I’m not sure if they can touch

Ok, makes sense. I wanted to know what to expect. I was trying to plan a color pattern. It isn't what I thought I was getting, but that's my fault. I can (still) use the contrasting colors. But, was wanting the flowy/long tentacle kind. lol
It might surprise me!
Thanks :)

Even with normally short polyps they can get some crazy sweepers

Will do. (the original 1 is growing) That sounds like a good idea, either way.
thanks

Might be a Bernardpora.

oh my! .... something else, I've never heard of.lol I (normally) try to "read up" ahead of time. I thought, I knew what I was getting. Apparently, not! Opps! It can stay in the frag rack, a little longer. I'll find or create a spot, tomorrow.
I will research it. Better late, than never.
thanks :)
