Micro lord bailout. Anything I can do?

Well, I loathe target feeding corals b/c I have a lot of inverts, and that’s why I broadcast now. For example today I target fed benepets and the cleaner shrimp and fish were stealing from them, and then I found a Nassarius snail on top of some zoas, smooshing them and stealing the food. It’s a zoo in there. So I get that some folks don’t believe harassment can cause an issue like bailout, but I’ve found various resources that list it as one possible cause. I wouldn’t rule it out. Now and then crawling over a coral is different from constant harassment.

I do plan to continue target feeding the micro lord in the box — it’s still looking very positive in terms of recovery, so I’m hopeful.

My cleaner shrimp was able to go clear across the tank in seconds as soon as food hit the water lol. I would have to squirt some mysis his way first. I have lots of hermits and some Nassarius snails too. I just make sure they are all busy eating then I put a little food on the coral polyps. Some makes it in for the most part.

I wish that worked for me. It’s a big zoo lol! I do love them tho — wouldn’t give them up.

Kind of a pain but for corals that need it, you could use a little feeding cap.. Keep the critters off . I think some people use the top of clear soda bottles. Can shoot a little food in through the opening in the top. Just have to weigh it down somehow until the coral has had a chance to swallow the food.

I personally have a challenge keeping these acan/ lord type corals due to high flow ripping polyps off, but once I find a nice shelter new heads spring back up. I have a couple in a sps dominated mixed reef. I can usually find or create shady spots for lps but the flow is harder for me to protect them from. They seem to like eating every other day… mysis, roids, roe

Can’t do it for every coral, but I was actually thinking of doing this for the other lord that hasn’t really recovered from shipping. I see it put its feeders out when I broadcast, but I’m thinking target feeding both lords would be helpful if I want them to recover.

You know, I was wondering about flow as well — it was in the same spot since I first got it and never showed any signs of stress so there weren’t any real clues. But I do have a fair amount of flow in my tank. Could be just one more thing that was bugging it over time.

The only real issue I know for a fact was the salinity drop a few months ago — that affected a few other corals during that time, but the lord in question never seemed to skip a beat.

Okay, so I try to view everything as a learning experience and this one has me all kinds of amazed. The lord that bailed is regrowing skeleton at its base. It has little bits of white calcification under it now. So crazy.

No real reason for this post other than just expressing that I’m in awe.

Well, I lost this coral today

Not because of the bailout — it had been doing well in the little acclimation box and had grown a small amount of skeleton back.

I must have left the box lid open last time I fed it and it floated out. Found it a couple mornings ago on my Duncan, attacking it. Managed to get it back in the box, but now the Duncan has damage and today the micro lord was a melted pile of jelly.

im mad b/c it’s totally my fault, and things had been going so well.
