Micro Scrubbing Bubbles and Sponge

I have a nice giant red sponge growing beneath the centerpiece of my rockscape and I was curious to see how micro scrubbing bubbles effect it. Would an air pocket cause the sponge to die off?

Make sure the bubbles are not dense...
