I have a reed just overcoming a severe kalk blast :( I received a full bottle of MICROBE-LIFT/Special Blend from him. Is this reef safe and will it help to break down my nitrates and or restore my "good bacteria" to my LR?

Joey? Is that you?!?!

What happened to your tank? To answer your question, Special Blend will add beneficial nitrifying bacteria back to your tank. Just make sure you follow the directions. Warning - it smells absolutely noxious. We have used it for a long time and still add it once a month for maintenance.

-Terry (aka the other half of prop-frags, lol)

Microbe Lube Special Blend is a great product. I add it once a week to keep the bacteria levels at the right levels in my low nutrient reef environment.

Haha yes it is me! After my tank crash w the kalk, Todd gave me some of that stuff and said add it to the system! I was just getting some extra info before I move forward with the dosing :) do you know if I add 8 or 2 oz??? I hope it helps w the break down of my trates...

It was like a snow storm :( blizzard to be exact..... My float valve stuck and pumped ten fresh gallons of kalk through my stirrer into my tank. I was told with such a hit like that from kalk it could have wiped out all my beneficial bacteria in the sand and on the rocks. My skimmer is beast ( sro 3000) but I would like to make sure my denitrifying bacteria is back in tact.

Joey, this is for your 150g tank? If so, the correct amount to dose is 150ml (roughly 5 oz). You will need to dose on day 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and maintenance is bi-weekly.

-Terry

Thanks! How did you get those dosages? On the box it says something a lil different. Not saying you are wrong, but do you have a web page or PDF that shows this? And can you help me with what exactly tho stuff does. Very lil info on the web! Thanks again :)

Ooops, I got ahead of myself. The first dose is 150ml. day 8, 15, 22 & 29 should be 100ml (just under 3.5 oz). The maintenance dose is 40ml (just under 1.5oz).

It will not hurt anything if you add a little more. I don't really measure the maintenance dose anymore, lol.

bahahaaah... Joey, you crack me up sometimes... Let us know when your tank is ready to handle some corals. We've got some stylo and bird's nest colonies that need a home.

Did you go to Vince's reef party? We would have loved to go, but it was on just too short a notice for us to change plans.

-Terry

Yeah we went! It was fun :) Vince literally had a tank crash. As in leaked water every where! But! Still managed to have good meet and great BBQ :)

I just started using it in my tank so I am hopeful it is as god as many say. P.s. It really does smell bad

I love this stuff. Keeping the skimmer on is fine, unless it makes you skimmer go crazy and overflow. If you run a UV it is said to turn it off.

DUDE!!! that smells like big foot crapped in a bottle! holy nog in a bottle batman..... this stuff better be good! the last time i smelled something that bad, was when i drove by the sewage plant on chippenham..... ewe.....
