Bacteria are Microbial Overloards, but they must be coupled with algae, which includes coral zooantheli, and sponges to complete nutrient recycling in an ecosystem.

Partners thru evolution

If you saw War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, the hero against the invading Martians was not Cruise,

Microbial Overlords won the “War of the Worlds”

Cryptic refugiums can be in many forms. Two not talked about are canister filters and reverse flow undergravel filter.

Picture is 40G refugium for 120G display. System is almost 5 years mature. Until 3 months ago, this was a mud macro refugium.

@Paul B
Any thoughts on how diversity of microbes boost immune system. Can we say “herd immunity “?
Hello Subsea. The only thing I know about herd immunity is how it is used a lot now with Covid.

Of course I believe in microbial diversity which is the reason I like to dump in anything I find at the beach.

I have not added anything from the sea this summer that I remember right now except seawater which I added 2 days ago when my tank leaked 10 gallons on my floor that I had to replace.

I think the problem with 99% of tanks is that they are to sterile especially quarantined or medicated tanks. :cool:

Life is health. I know in my tank, if I lift a rock, just like in the sea, all sorts of things scurry away.
