I have Had my cpr bakpak 2r+ running for a week and still getting tons of microbubbles in the tank. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Its a new tank with live sand only i have adjusted the outflow to different positions to try to eliminate bubbles and have adjusted air intake and now have the air open all the way with a silencer on it because that seems to make the least amount but still have tons of microbubbles.

No sorry I should have explained its a CPR bakpak hang on the back on a 29 gallon tank

From what I see, it looks like too much flow, bubbles shouldn't go down. That's just my 2cents. I'm not really familiar with a CPR BP

The pump is fine. CPR makes a surface skim/bubble trap attachment for the inside of the tank. There is also a blue filter material they sell which goes inside the skimmer. Mostly it's still just breaking in. Once it gets some slime built up inside the bubble chamber the bubbles will lessen. That's a lot of bubbles.

I wondered if when I add live rock and it actually had something to skim if it would settle down I am getting my live rock Monday we will see what it does

putting a small piece of loose sponge In the return pipe should help. this can impede flow and raise the water level in the body of the skimmer but you can adjust your skimmer cup to make up for it as long as the water level dosnt reach the hole between the two chambers. really just need something to stop the bubbles from flowing into the tank and rise and break. I think this skimmer was supposed to be used with bio bail which also helped stop the bubble. my 2cents hope it helps.

CPR's were never designed for bio balls that I know of. They were originaly sold just like this one is pictured. They do however have a blue floss they use in some of their skimmers. Like I said they also sell an after market bubble trap and surface skimming box which IMO is almost necessary. I have one sitting on my shelf in the garage. Iv'e used a BakPak more than once.

my knowledge on these may be out dated.. I have 2 cpr bak paks from a few years ago ...both came with bio bail, the blue floss stuff I think you mentioned. I used one recently to start up a tank without the bail and a small sponge helped with the bubbles as a diy fix. but trido is correct, you pretty much need the bubble trap and skimmer box for them to work best.

Yeah I ended up with the reef Ready model its a little different than regular models it does not come with Bio bale. I believe I'm going to purchase the bubble trap/surface Skimmer and try to add sponge I wish I had bought reef octopus I think they are a little better based on reviews I've read.

i dont know if its the same thing, but i got a frag once with that spongy looking orange stuff on it and it ended up killing my frag in the long run (bacteria/fungus?)-why i dip everything now.

I thought that it was a beneficial sponge idk just figured I would let the stuff run it course. I hope it don't kill corals
