Microbubbles with coralife biocube skimmer

Hey everyone, i know this skimmer doesnt get the best reviews and most even say its pointless but im trying to make my tank as low maintenance as possible and i think that every little it would help. Ive narrowed it down to the skimmer causing the bubbles because when i turn it off the bubbles stop.

Can you get the water to flow onto a sponge from the skimmer?
