My micromussa's base has turned black. Internet is saying maybe flatworm, but I haven't seen any. I've have coral for 2 weeks and I noticed it turning black last week. Thought maybe it was under too much light so I moved it to the bottom away from light. Any suggestions as to what is happening. Also, coral is not as full as it was in the store.

Hi, welcome to R2R!

Have you run any tests on your water parameters? For example Salinity, Temp, Ph, dKH or Alkalinity, Ammonia, Nitrates?

Everything is in normal range. Nitrates are very high for coral 40. I'm Adjusting things...new tank 3 months. 30 gallon. My skimmer was adjust and added larger hob filter and got rid of canister. Does it look like coral is rotting from bottom?

Did you use live rock - dry rock - dry live rock?
How did you cycle the tank?
What are you using to check salinity?
40 nitrates is really high. I would perform a 20% water change and check nitrates again.
If nitrates are still high, perform another 20% water change tomorrow.

I used live rock and live sand. Cycled with rocks and a little bit of fish food...3 weeks. Used regular hydrometer first and the. Switched to Milwaukee Hydro. Meter. I did water change on wed. 15 %. I'll do another water chance today...was giving time for skimmer to do some work. Ok, thanks for suggestion:).

Odd your saying it is turning black?
Can you take a picture with the blue channel off by chance?
Black areas usually indicate anaerobic conditions from a serious lack of flow.

Ok, I turned off blue and turned up white to get a better picture: 1st bad side. 2nd getting worse side. Normally the top is red and a little plump.
