A good amount is settling on the bottom and on the bio bricks, been about 9 months untouched now. I’ll try and look for a small filter bag. Thanks.Ah! I get it now. How much detritus are we talking here? A felt/fabric sock will probably clog up quickly and a mesh sock will probably pass sediment more fine than the micro rating. I have 200 micron felt socks that clog up in 2-3 days and have not much in them other than trapped fine particles. Just recently started messing with 200 micron mesh socks but don’t have much feedback on them.
I am still a believer in the shop vacuum. You can drain the tank in buckets, pump down the sump and vacuum out the few gallons in the bottom of the sump. Reuse the clean water that was syphoned from the display and incorporate the water vacuumed out into a water change.
If you are only vacuuming a little detritus than the maxi jet method might be fine. The big box pet stores sell small filter bags for carbon and such that may be worth a try
