Hi All,

Ive had some issues with what I thought was Dino’s due to undetectable nutrients in a newer tank. About a month ago I did a 5 day blackout and added UV. This cleared my sand bed for about two weeks, however it’s coming back again. I’m attaching some pics of the sand bed as well as two I took with a crappy microscope at 400x. Would really appreciate some help with ID if possible. I can also try to get another sample and microscope pics if these aren’t helpful for ID. Thanks all!

Looks like diatoms

Can you focus on the brown bits and not the clear ones? It looks like your focus plane is the surface of the slide or the cover slip and not the actual thing you're trying to image.

I feel like there may be a couple unfocused parts that have more of the teardrop shape of dinos, but overall it’s really hard to tell and mostly doesn’t look like dinos. Probably just diatoms

It’s a pretty crappy microscope, but I’ll definitely see if I can get a better shot.

That photo looks more like diatoms, but I still think there may be a mixture of dinos starting.
