Hello all. I figure there are quite a few of us into microscopy around here. Those of you with scopes - what do you use or recommend, and please share photos or videos you’ve taken with it.

I’d like a scope that I can easily upload images to my MacBook or iPhone. That’s really my only requirement.

I’m open to any/all suggestions. Price limit is flexible, anything around a few hundred. Preferably under $400.

Not looking for anything super cheap like the phone lens attachments or child’s microscope (already have those hah).

I like to suggest the Omax brand (40-2000 or 40-2500x). It has great optics, doesn't cost a fortune, and allows you to spend your extra money on other stains/reagents. There are some nicer scopes out there with sharper optics, but most involve you looking at the used market.

As far as picture goes, they sell a USB version which might fit the ticket. I would pass on any of the OMAX (or any companies) own cameras as they'll be obsolete in a few years when they can't keep up with the megapixels/resolution. You might also consider some of the phone rigs that attach to traditional microscopes. Some of the better rigs really allow some great shots.

Was just getting ready to post this same topic. Great minds think alike.. lol. I'm looking for the cheapest scope possible that actually works well enough to be useful. I don't really need to see things on a cellular level (although it would be nice) Im mostly wanting to be able to check frags for pest, look at the occasional critter and maybe use in my other hobbies Like circuitboard repair and coin collecting. Looking around the net this one seems to get really good reviews and its super cheap, only 1200x though

There are several good inexpensive microscopes. However, It is troublesome to attach a camera to them. I purchased a AMScope attachment for a nikon camera and was very disappointed. It was very blurry around the edges.

I bought the AmScope M150C and received it last night to ID a type of dinoflagellates. I will try to get a few more picture tonight/tomorrow but I feel like a kid on science class. Here are a few with my shaky hands, still have to play with focus and test all magnifications.
