A week ago I obtained a JBJ 30RL tank w/live rock and crushed coral and have started the cycle process. Since day one--I have had a problem with tiny air bubbles coming from the filter system and sticking to everything. It has the stock 3 stage filter system w/ two stock pumps that are submerged under 2-4" of water; (depending on time of adding water after evaporation). I can move the media baskets out of the way and notice large bubbles deveolping in the overflow--then continuing down into the pump area, with the media baskets removed--the problem is still present. When I turn the pumps off, all of the bubbles dissapear within a minute.

The tank was used and the live rock and crushed coral had been used by the previous owners years ago, everything was cleaned before starting it up again. I'm assuming everything is cycled because I cannot get an ammonia reading with a test kit even after adding fresh ammonia. I'm still going to go through a two month cycle process before adding anything living.

I'm assuming that there is either a problem with my water (deep artesian well water, no farms local but watershed area. tested water shows no copper/metals), or a problem with my pumps. I'm leaning towards a water problem (hardness?), and I might just setup a nice R/O-DI system--even though I was hoping that I didnt have to...
Is there a simple fix, other than R/O--and will a R/O truly resolve this problem?
I cannot find much information on similar problems so I figured I would seek some help from the community.

Thank you in advance

I think that I figured it out, since I obtained this aquarium "used" it did not come with a manual, and I cannot find one anywhere online, and i'm a bit "newb", so... I left the middle (pump area) low in water--so there was around 8-10" of waterfall area from the overflow/filter area. I filled this portion of the tank up so there is maybe 1/4" of waterfall and it eliminated the bubble problem; and the annoyingly soothing sound of an echoed waterfall.

There's nothing quite like the feeling of a light bulb over my head solution followed by banging my head against the wall over stupidity..
