So I had some of the beginner sps like montipora pocilapora and had some nice growth with my system but my tank sprung a leak and it took me a week to get them into a new tank and almost all sps bleached out. Is there a next step in sps progression or since i have been able to keep those beginner sps i could keep anything. I'm planning on going to a buddy house. He has a bunch of corals for sale and i wanna get some sweet looking sps but don't wanna spend a bunch of money and have them die. currently i have a 40 gallon breeder 20 gallon long sump with 2 rossmont mover 1200 and a jebao dct 4000 return pump kalk +2 in ato. tanks been running for about a week but i transferred everything from my cube all rock and as much water as i could save. i do weekly 10 gallon water changes with io.
parameters
salinity
1.026
salifert
calcium 420
phos .03
hanna
alk 9.3
api
nitrate .05
amonia .25 i believe im getting ammonia because its new sand and I couldn't have all the rock in sw so some was left out to dry for a week probably mini cycle.

hold off till the am settles. Youll be wasting money IMO.
go to his house, bring beverages. Money better spent.
I bet the frags'll be bigger and cheaper next time too.

let the new tank heal.

but do you think once I have no ammonia reading i will be able to keep most sps the first time i went for those beginner sps he said he had some higher end sps but wouldn't sell me any because i wasn't ready for them. ive been looking at some of the awesome colors people get with some sps and i been wanting some of my own

he's prob gonna tell you same same thing this time.

If i had your tank prob id wait 2 to 4 mo. Id wait one month maybe less MAYBE before I put easy ones back in.

and so you know. You wouldn't believe what i have been offered FOR FREE in the last month. Not to mention this year for cheap. My tank is not ready.
But thats me.

I guess its better to be safe than sorry. I was thinking since everything in the new tank is from my previous tank its like having a 6 month old tank with a new sand bed

give it a few days and get some highlight zoas, you'll feel better.

When I did my big transfer in the 29jbj to the 30 cube. I had some issues too. Most everything was fine. The sps, sorry acros i had to pull. the common sps's were fine.
they all started to take off and finally get growth and some color.
recently I had an stn rtn thing a couple weeks ago, I still haven't figured that out. some of the commons and all of the acros went. I pulled em again and saved em again. but geez.
I did a restart on the 30 and and I figure by dec I'll prob get some acros back in. A tester first and then add slow so I can keep up on dosing with out pushing it too fast.
So It might be january till I have pretty acros in the 30 again.

I actually got a piece of monti a pocilapora frag and some birdsnest and a bunch of zoas already the sps stuff is barly hanging on so I guess that till be the test

yea perfect. when those start look nice and you get the nutrients and light levels where you want them I think youll be good to go.

It's what I managed to save I didn't haven't bought any new pieces
buying coral makes me feel better:D. I got some gorgs to tide me over till the acros settle. Im gonna be on the look out for some zoas and Palys for the holidays. Acros can wait.
My 30s a bit sparse still but im doing some re scape and ill start adding from the other tank and let it settle.

I've been keeping mainly Zoas and palys my whole time ive been keeping corals. Tried birdsnest and Monticap but they didn't survive. Hopefully when I grab some Sps this time around they'll take off in my tank. I waiting for a order from @Legendary Corals this week. Tired of just the fowlr Time to get some color back in my tank. Have to utilize this 48"maxspect

I hear you dude I could never keep sps corals until I got an rodi unit weekly water changes and kalk in my ato idk if it's one specific thing or a combination of the 3 but now that I've been able to keep the easier stuff I want some acros

its all practice. thats what im finding. Once my zoas popped, the montis grew. the clam got bigger and then the acros colored up. it was heck because I was on manual dosing. loo into one. the jebao 2 pump was $60. the 3 was $67.
the montis nearly sunk me on calcium.

its all those.

I was thinking of getting something like that jebao dosing pump but kalk in the ato has been working for me especially since the weather is pretty much the same all year evap rate doesn't fluctuate to much. But I'm thinking with a bunch of acros it won't keep up
