Battling dinos/prorocentrums for 6-8 weeks, and had still a Palythoa (without knowing its toxic nature).



July 2023
Made a ton of changes to enrich the biodiversity, and got rid of dinos, and now only some manageable hair algae issues, and need to upgrade the light very soon.

Tank hue won’t be an exact match due to pictures taken at different points of the photoperiod but also I’ve changed my lighting programming gradually since then as well

I did a tank transfer at Christmas out of a 18 month old tank to a peninsula. Love the peninsula. I’ve gotten some good growth in the last 6 months, but things were a little touch and go in the beginning. I only lost one torch (holy grail).

While I don’t have a picture of my tank yet, my mid year update on the new home build. My house is nearing completion hopefully in the next few months. This house was designed to have a peninsula tank as the center piece in the living room.

Home building is such a fun but sometimes frustrating process. I remember being irritated most the time, but at this point I miss the excitement of coming out to the project site every day after work. I did little things in the evening myself to the framing that I probably wasn’t supposed to do but it was cheaper than paying them to do it. Like installing additional reinforcement ties to the framing and 4” deck screws into the stairs. I’d just bring my shop light out and work at night sometimes

Well my year started in my 2yo 35.5gallon waterbox.

Upgraded into a 120gal peninsula in February.

Recent shots from a few days ago. A handful of things were added and shuffled around in March and I got rid of a handful of lps corals. Dealing with some nutrient swings currently that have dulled and browned some of my corals but growth and colors has otherwise been great since April.

Reef2Reef sent me an email to provide an update good or bad. Well here is my update:

I spend $1,000 or so at BRS on stuff to get a used Red Sea tank started nearly 2 years ago. The one component I need to complete my project was not in stock (pandemic issues). BRS gave me multiple estimates and after a year I just kind of gave up. I randomly looked it up a couple of days ago and sure enough they have it how. The "tell me when its back in stock" notification did not happen. Honestly, ive just been thinking of selling all of the crap for a loss. Who knows, we shall see. For now I am $1k in with this project with BRS and another $750 for the tank and just have an empty tank full of boxes of stuff and regret.

Could be an empty tank full of possibilities

Here is a shot of my 75. It is mostly a softy tank, but there is a small orange colored SPS in about the middle of the photo which was added about 9 months ago as a frag. It has grown onto the adjacent live rock. Montipora? The orange-lined bristletooth swimming by at bottom is 13+ years old.

Love the natural shallow water mid-day spectrum you’re running. Whether it’s leds or halides. Matters not. Looks terrific

Well my mid-year progress is recession.

I am in the process of fragging all my corals out of my tank and connected frag tank. The majano’s have finally won the war and I have tossed in the towel. Anything I tried I couldn’t get rid of them at best all I could do was manage them. I bought a 24x48x10 AIO tank to put my corals in once they are fragged off. It is a slow process to only do a few a day and make sure there are no majano’s on the corals then mount all the frags. Some corals have been a total loss because I did not want to risk transferring one majano over to frag tank. The majano’s were in between the branches. I will unfortunately have to spend a bit to get them back again but it will be worth it.

Don’t mind the dirty and messy glass as I was just working in the tank.

The philosopher's tank is now 20 years old, but I was battling hair algae (at around the 8 year mark in the current tank) and things weren't looking too nice earlier in the year, so I decided to do some cabinet making and re-work things, so this is my "new" tank after its (counts on fingers)... 9th? refresh. At the moment it's chalice, zoas, palys, acans and if Im going to be honest, waaaay to many anemones...

Office tank, started August of 2021. Viewable from both sides (one side is my office, the other is a conference room).

I have been slowly adding fish and coral to this tank as I learn more about the hobby.

This is my 120 gallon reef. I’ve been in the hobby since the early 90’s. This tank was started in 2016. We moved across town in 2020 and most of this growth is since then. Dosing Kalkwasser has been a game changer for me. I need a bigger tank because there’s no room left in this one.

Going pretty well for first tank (29G)--intend it to be a LPS reef but after losing all the fish after 4 months due to not quarantining second set of fish, I'm taking it very slow. Snails have bred and just have two clownfish. Makes me feel better about water conditions since the snails are breeding. More fish in the next month or so and then hopefully first corals at the end of summer.

Could use help with a couple IDs; FTS first and then the ID's. The small white critters are all over the back of the tank (about 2 dozen)--I think they're the same as what's on the empty snail shell, but no idea what they are. Same for the stalks all along the rock.

Got this Red Sea 425 at the end of November last year. Setup and cycling took me into January when I transferred the corals and fish from my old DT. So this really is a six month progress picture. After a bit of experimentation with the flow, lighting and water parameters it finally settled down about 2 months ago. The Softie tank has been in operation for about 9 months and has settled down after adjusting trace elements and Nitrates. Many of the corals here started as small frags and are now growing into colonies on the live rock.

The small white blobs look like pineapple sponges and the little stick things could be filter worms. Can't tell about the worms cause the photo is so fuzzy. Both are good things and mean you have healthy bio matter in your water column.

Thanks--did the best I could with the pic. Camera is a Canon Powershot G15--had a lot of trouble focusing. Guess I need to get something better. Good to hear thats an indicator of good water.
