I'm currently planning on adding a Midas blenny to my tank (32 gallon; so far I have a common clown and a firefish in QT, and will be adding a Pseudochromis fridmani at the end). I saw some starry blennies at the LFS, and was wondering if you can mix them in a tank (Midas being more open water, starry being more rockwork percher)? My perusal of the net brings up half of "sure" and half "the starry will beat up the Midas". Has anyone tried this in a smaller tank, and if so, how did it go?

I have mixed the two without issues but not in such a small space. It's always a risk but I think you'd have a harder time due to the size you have on offer, so I wouldn't.

In a tank your size I wouldn't try it, one of the blennys will suffer.

Midas blenny is a very active swimmer. Not sure about dimensions are on your tank, but I think he would be too crowded for this fish. They can get aggressive if there is similar feeding fish and feel cramped. Both the starry and midas would be good tank mates in a larger aquarium. I have both in mine without issues.

Hate typing on cellphone :p

Will not mix, then-thanks all

I was going by liveaquaria's tank sizing for Midas.

Who wouldn't want a mandarin? :-D If they ever come out with ones that eat frozen consistently, or I set up a mysis generating Refugium and have the time and space to add pods continually ...

Mine didn't get along in a 85gal.....i suppose that it could just have been because my starry was a butt head.

In theory because they are different genus of blenny they should get along...But I agree with the above statement of that seeming a little small for a Midas which may lead to aggression issues. I currently have them mixed in a 75g system with no problems though.
