Hi I am worried about a Midas Blenny I plan on getting in the future. I thought it would be a perfect fish until I read a post on here talking about them getting skinny and people not feeding enough. I have a 75 gallon and I already have a pair of standard ocellaris clownfish, 1 flame hawkfish, 1 purple firefish, and 1 royal gramma. It is the last fish I plan on adding . Next things will be corals and snails. I feed sustainable aquatics pellets, frozen mysis and I plan on maybe feeding vitamin-enriched brine. I feed 2 sometimes 3 times a day. I want to feed enough but the problem is my dad sometimes works really late and I am only with him half of each week. I will be starting school soon and I don’t want this to be an issue. I would really love to get one of these guys. I know at fifteen this should be least of my worries. I though of maybe an auto feeder, but I would have to modify the top and the some of the fish may jump out. I just don’t know what to do.
Hi there! I am new to this hobby so take my words with a grain of salt if you will...
I have a 45G tank and I have 2 ocellaris, 1 royal gramma, 1 longnose hawkfish, 1 banggai cardinal and a gold midas blenny.
I feed them 3 times per day. I know this might be controversial, but sometimes they beg for more and I do give them a little snack in the middle of the afternoon.
My blenny specifically eats really well. He has gain weight since coming home with me and he is looking gorgeous!
All my fish have a special personality but the Blenny is the most lively one, always swimming around showing off his beautiful yellow blue eyes!
If you are going to school you can feed the fish right before leaving in the morning and right when you return home.
When you are not there, you can leave some pre-portioned frozen food for your dad to feed them in the morning and then at night when he comes back. They can wait... I know many people who only feed their fish once per day.
I heard there are sticky food you can stick to your glass, maybe that can work for you the days that you are somewhere else...
Getting an auto-feeder would allow for you to feed pellets only, maybe not the best for all the fish but good in case of emergency...
Also leaving the tank without a lid is a big no for me. I lost my beautiful wheeler's goby who decided to go carpet surfing one night... all of them could potentially jump. Very sad day when it happens.
I love that you are researching and reading about your fish before you actually get them. That is the best practice!
So anyway... I think you will be okay if you get a midas blenny.
attached my blenny, Leono.
