I’ve had my midas blenny for just under a year and he is by far my favorite fish, so much so that I’d like to get rid of my wrasse and replace it with a tail spot blenny. tank is 40 gal so I worry about aggression even though there are plenty of spots for the tail spot to claim.

(open to other blenny ideas if you think others would be a safer bet)

current stocking
2 clowns
1 midas
goby/shrimp pair
small pinstripe wrasse

I have both but in different tanks. The tail spot is more of a rock cruiser where my midas swims and eats with the tangs so maybe?

A few positive responses to the same question below.

thank you so much! I think i’m going to try it out.

I had a Tailspot and Midas in a 75 gallon and the both picked holes in the same rock and the Midas would chase the Tailspot off but never hurt it. When the Tailspot eventually passed I got another, it found a hole in another rock and they get along fine.

I had a midas and a tailspot in a 65 gallon, they were like best little buddies. Always swimming together and hanging out in the same rock. Should work out fine but it does seem like fish have their own personalities so if you add the tailspot put him in a acclimation box for a day or so.

Does the wrasse have to come out?
well, I just don’t want to overstock. do you think adding another blenny to a tank with 2 clowns, 1 midas, goby/shrimp pair, and a small pinstripe wrasse is too much? i worry because it’s a cube

You're fine, the tailspot will love the rock work.

3 days in they’re vibin in their own spots, midas chased him out of his corner first day but since then no other tank mates are paying any attention to him. looks promising so far

Ive had my tailspot in with my sixline wrasse ( the big bad scary boogeyman) without any problems. Tailspots have a small bioload, I’d say go for it.
