Hey Folks,

So I picked up a Midas Blenny for my tank, after acclimation he was MIA for almost 24hr, then when he finally came out to eat, he had blemmish on his head. I assume its from the hiding spot he has found in the rock, but want to get some opinions. And how to treat it. I don't think I could get him out if needed, and I do have corals and anemones in the tank, so options could be limited. TIA

You used the word injury which is exactly what it is. Can evolve from structure in the tank as they startle easily as well from aggression from another tank mate causing it to dive into rocks. This should heal on its own but keep an eye on area for any development of infection. Fish also looks a little thin - Is it eating yet?
Getting it to eat and continue eating will be important as there has been an influx of many starving and developing edema which it eventually feeds off its own liver

Yes, he was introduced to the display tank yesterday and hid so fast, I didn't even know where he went. This afternoon he finally came out, so I fed the tank and he ate. When he was swimming around we noticed the mark, and where he hides. Which is a small hole in the rockwork we didn't know existed, so it's pretty tight.

I'll keep an eye on it, and see how it goes. I thought it was injury, and not disease/parasite, but wanted to get the opinions of others.

As far as being skinny, my LFS does a 2 week prazi and antibiotic treatment, so he may just be lacking from that. I keep my fish pretty fat, so that shouldn't be an issue moving forward, but I'll keep an eye out.

Thank you, I appreciate the information.

It would not be bad to have on hand, either seachem kanaplex or ruby Rally Pro (tank safe) on hand in case it gets infected. Some foods to offer are Live brine shrimp, frozen brine, Mysis shrimp, LRS nano frenzy, and formula 2 frozen as they are also herbiverous.

I've got the barrage of seachem medications (and focus) on hand, which is what I was thinking as well. I've never tried the ruby rally pro stuff.
