Midas Issues - Possibly Blind Swimming in circles

So far no improvements. I've checked on him at some odd hours and sadly he is just typically still spinning around (always in the same direction too). It doesn't appear that he can tell any difference if it's pitch black or any light so I'm guessing his sight is completely gone.

I'm going to go through the 10 days of treatment and if it doesn't appear any progress is being made I'm probably going to go ahead and put him down. I did manage to get him to eat last night while he was spinning but I'm having to use tweezers and put the mysis right on his mouth and keep trying to get him to take it.

Another thing to note is is poop is normal looking and not white or stringy etc.

It can take awhile for antibiotics to cause a positive effect.

how old is he, they only have a 3 year life span apparently. Sad to see the poor guy spinning like that. Hope the antibiotics work out.

@Humblefish How long do you think I should give him, I know 10 days of meds but didn't really know how long after that.

@Denvercherub I've had him almost a year, he's probably grown a bit since I got him but no clue how old he actually is.

It can take 10-14 days just for the infection to go away, let alone have his sight return. Assuming it is a bacterial related issue.

Hi @Humblefish today marks the 9th day that I've had the midas in the qt and giving him the meds. I will be doing a 20% water change tonight and using carbon to remove the meds, this is the 2nd time I've done it (should have done it last night actually) with following api's directions on the maracyn.

He has improved and isn't really spinning circles anymore, and I'm able to tell his vision is returning. For example if he's at the side of the tank and i go in there and put my face right next to him to look ....you can see it startles him a bit and he kinda looks at you.

Do you think I should do another round of maracyn, (today is the 9th day) or just let him live in the qt without meds for another few weeks? I think ultimately the test to see how well he is doing would be moving him back into the display and watching how he swims around.

Thanks for all the help.

That's excellent news! :) I would keep dosing Maracyn until you hit Day 14, and then remove all meds and let him chill in the QT for a couple of weeks. Hopefully by then his sight will have fully returned and he can resume his life in the DT.

Awesome thanks!
