I have a toadstool leather coral that i’ve had for about 2 and a half years. It outgrew my 60g tank so I added it to my 75g fowlr which I’ve been converting to a reef. In the few months it’s been in the tank, I’ve noticed that the polyps in the middle of the coral don’t extend much compared to the polyps around the edges. I have a frag of this coral in another tank that has all polyps extended.

Are there any reasons for this lack of polyp extension? The gsp in this tank is doing fine and growing well, so were my zoas until my puffer ate them. This tank was dosed with copper a while back and removed with large water changes, cuprisorb, and polyfilters. Not sure if that’s an issue since other corals and inverts seem fine.

Could be flow, my toadstools like flow and as they get bigger they get flow on the outer rim but in the middle they may not. Also they get sand or other stuff on them they have a hard time getting it off and can cause them to close up in areas.

I try to blow it off whenever sand gets on it, but now that I think about it it is placed in a low flow area. I’ll try redirecting the flow so it gets more of it. Thanks
