Looking for the smallest of reef safe midwater fish. System is a Red Sea 250 footprint is 36”x22” current inhabitants are a pair of Randall’s shrimp gobies,Pearly jawfish , juvenile longnose hawkfish, Bicolor blenny and a juvenile coris wrasse (he will be getting rehomed soon). Saw some blue eye cardinals that caught my eye. But at 2.5 inches I was looking for something smaller if possible

Firefish or royal gramma might be an option. Cardinals will hover midwater.
I actually have a firefish in order. I know it’s hard to get away with a fish that “schools” in my size system. I saw a group of blue eye cardinals at the lfs in a 4 foot tank. Man they looked awesome ! Not sure if their behavior is any different from other chromis or cardinals that will eventually disperse and kill of the others and end up with one or two.
