I've been in the hobby about eight months now. I have what might be a dumb question but I'm asking anyway! Are there certain fish like clowns that you should buy non-tank bred. If I put them in my tank will they have the extinct to go to the anemone if they are tank bred. I know for the hobby it is good to buy tank bred sometimes.. Just wondering... Thanks for any info..

IME/O, a clown being tank breed will not be an issue with them being hosted.

The main issue is that the main common TB clowns are percs and ocellaris. They are most commonly pair with E. quadricolor (( BTA )) which is not a natural host anemone for those clowns. Unfortunately, the natural host anemones for these clowns happen to be the most difficult ones to keep.

Years ago I picked up a TB pair of A. polymnus (( saddlebacks )), put them in a tank with an S. haddoni (( natural host anemone )) and they were hosted by it within seconds of being released into the tank.

I picked up a huddoni carpet anemone on Tuesday. I was hopping my o. Clowns would dive on in.. It looks like my bigger one wants to.. Just has not happened though.. So I didn't know if being tanked bred or not made a difference. Thanks though.. I appreciate the feed back..
