I think so many people have trouble with copperbands because they want to quarantine them. Copperbands hate that as they are not that picky or difficult fish. If you put them in quarantine, they will hate you and if they had a phone, they would text that to you.

Haha Paul, trolling along as usual.

I'e lost 3 CBB in the past 3 weeks.

Yeah, it just caught my eye. I hate to see so many of my favorite fish dying or just being bought for aiptasia. :(

I have no aptasia issues and keep trying because I like them a lot.
With that said, you recommend NOT putting them in qt first?

Yes, but I also recommend not putting any fish in quarantine, but that s for another thread. :D

I got them from Ellis Aquatics in Compton and never asked their origin. No discoloration other than small patches of grey in the white areas of the body. All 3 looked the same. Each CBB was not skinny, no bones showing or visual signs of disease. To be they seemed worth a shot for a fragile fish.

First one was in 1.020 and I acclimated to 1.026 (qt salinity) in an he.

2nd set was received at 1.022 and was about the same acclamation period and in separate tanks.

This guy doesn’t select the best fish and his tanks are filthy. There are cheaper and better LFS

Age of aquarium in Long Beach (QT their fish and coral before selling them. You can ask to see their QT / back room)

Seaside tropical fish in Huntington Beach (flat out great variety of fish. Go Sunday when they receive their shipments)

Added a CBB in my new 180 no quarantine. He was the only fish in there for weeks besides a few cromis. Figured it would be my best chance at success. Then transferred fox. All was well. Transferred a purple and newly purchased Achilles at the same time and things got uneasy. I ended up moving the CBB to my 60. Got rid of the hyper Achilles. The purple is definitely a punk. CBB is fat and happy it's been maybe five months in the 60. There's a blue-spotted jawfish, mystery wrasse, Firefish and two clowns in with him. Very mellow tank. He eats mitis, lrs, constantly hunting off the 80 pounds of year + rock. I buy fresh clams from grocery store and throw one open in every few days. Not sure how long I'll keep that up but so far it's working. They definitely get stressed easy.

Well... my cbb went through 2 weeks in QT with tank transfer method.. everything appeared to go well and he was eating well. I put him in my DT and immediately my powder blue tang started attacking him. Immediately, I separated the tank (180g) with egg crate so that the cbb has a section to himself (about 60 gallons worth). The thing wouldn’t eat anything even after no fish on his section. He started getting really skinny and after 5 days, I moved him to my secondary fish only tank in the garage which only has 2 clowns in it. He started eating again, immediately.

Gonna get him fat and try again???

You will likely get the exact same result. Adding a cbb to a tank (unless it's very big) with an established tang, especially a powder blue, is a bad idea. You could try several things once the cbb is happy and healthy again.

1. Put the cbb in an acclimation box in the tank until the aggression subsides. That way the box takes the aggression not the fish, although it will be stressed and may not eat all the same.

2. Remove the powder blue and let the cbb establish, then try adding the powder blue back in, again with an acclimation box.

3. Rehome one of the fish.

CBBs are very sensitive to bullying, and due to the similar body shape, established tangs usually bully them. Established powder blues are known to be extra aggressive. CBB should only be kept with peaceful tank mates.

The odds are against you my friend, good luck.

Fourth and final try with Copperband.

Ordered a CBB from age of aquariums and picked her up today. This time I did a 2hr drip and to main tank (fingers crossed I made the right desicion). Watched the CBB eat frozen mysis at the Lfs so I know it's accepting frozen foods.

Currently cruising the tank with lights off and showing interest in the live rock :)
