Mike and Terry's 300g Reef

Well, we have some mixed news...

We lost the little juvi Flame Angel for reasons unknown. She was eating and showed no signs of disease.

The saddest news is that we lost our male M. bipartitus. We have no idea what happened. A half hour earlier, he had been putting on a show, displaying his "pecks" as he always does when I come in the room and eating like a pig . I found him laying on his side, nearly dead on the sand bed. Mike did an autopsy and he had no obvious signs of parasites or injury. I have been "Ms. Crancky Pants" for 3 days as I did not take this well at all. He had been with us for about 4 years.

R.I.P.

On a good note, the male Flame Angel is doing well and has been released into the DT. The Regal is a little miffed and doing a bit of chasing, but nothing serious - just letting him know his place. I'll try to get pics soon.

Valentino, our C. earlei was released into the DT last night and is doing well today. He is definitely a lover, not a fighter and is a bit intimidated by his boisterous tankmates, although, I just saw him put the teenage male P. octotaenia flasher wrasse in his place, lol.

Here are some pics of him while he was in the acclimation box:

We made the decision to remove our C. rubrisquamis before releasing him as he was showing severe signs of aggression towards the C. earlei for two days straight. He is chilling in the QT for now, but we plan to move him to the prop tank/refugium to let him chill for a couple of months before adding him back to the display.

That sucks about your M. bipartitus....I lost my favorite fish the other day and have been bitter for a few days also...good luck with your earlei, he is very good looking! I think I may need to get one soon....where did you get that QT box?

There's something about those little juvie flame angels. Sorry to hear about the leopard, he was beautiful and you know I love Valentino :)

Sorry to hear about your losses M&T, but a flame angel and that Earl's Fairy wrasse are some beautiful additions!

Sorry for your loss. New guy looks beautiful!!!

Thank you!

Thank you! I am sorry to hear you lost one of yours too. The QT box came from Elite Aquatics. Mine is a custom size and I couldn't be happier with it.

I was hoping since our juvi Flame was from the Marshall Islands that she would make it thru QT. Losing our "Hulk" really stung I have to say. Out of all our fish, he was my favorite. Hopefully, Valentino will be with us for a LONG time. It's funny, he and the Flame Angel looked huge in the QT tank, (the Earl's is over 3"), but they both look tiny in the big tank, LOL. :haha:

Thank you Scott! Yes, the Flame and Earl's are beautiful additions and I just need to focus on that. All of our fish are very social with me - the wrasses even more so. They all eat out of my hand, some like to be petted, others will sit in my hand or rub up against my arms and they are completely trusting and SPOILED rotten. We didn't even have to corner the Red Velvet Fairy to remove him. Mike put a few NLS pellets in the bottom of our acrylic dip & pour container and held it under water and he just swam in and started munching on the pellets. And he was STILL munching on them as I was transporting him to the QT out in the garage, LOL.:snicker:

Terry your as bad me, I love hand feeding all my spoiled rotten babies. You should see how tiny my earlei is in person, I'm so scared to move him to the display. They really aren't shy at all but like you said they're not fighters either.

Dang sorry for your loss. :( This part of the hobby is really what drags me down!

I don't blame you for waiting. Fatten him up and give him a bit of time for a growth spurt. I had to pull our female Bell's out of our DT because she was just too small and was really struggling with the flow in our tank. I later pulled the male out as well and just let them both chill in our prop-tank/refugium for about 8 weeks. They both had nice growth spurts and are doing much better in the DT now. Not to mention, they are better able to handle the other boisterous wrasses, lol.

I'm so sorry to hear about ur loss. He was the reason I fell in love with wrasse. No kidding.

I have a mystery, nahacky pair and choati... Mystery is not playing nice to female nohacky so he's being put back in QT tank until I get my other tank in 1-2 weeks.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

Thank you! He was a tough loss. He had been with us since he was a small juvenile and just had so much personality.

You are wise to re-home the Mystery as they can be very intolerant of other wrasses. The Choati is one that we would love to have - maybe one day.

Thought we should show some love for the new male Flame Angel by sharing a couple of pics:

That face is something else, LOL.

P. filamentosus

Our Filamented Flasher decided to pose for me today:
