While the existing 50l nano has been great, it's time to move on to something a little bigger. Space constraints mean I can't get too carried away, so for now it'll be a 45g (175l) shallow with matching sump built to fit on, and in, an existing cabinet.

Apart from size as a design consideration, I wanted to be able to look down into the tank as an option so it had to be shallow and rimless, and I wanted an almost C2C overflow.

After playing around with a few designs, the drawings below went to the tank builder.

Equipment

- Tank - 920 x 440 x 400 or 36 x 17 x 16” approx Low Iron

- Sump – 850 x 300 x 400mm or 33 x 12 x 16” approx

- Overflow – Coast to coast (almost)

- Drain – Siphon, Open Channel & Emergency

- Stand – Converted credenza

- In Tank Movement – 2 x Jebao RW4 with Wifi controllers 2 x EcoTech MP10wQD

- Return Pump - Jebao DCT4000 EcoTech Vectra L1

- Heaters - 2 x Eheim Jager 100W

- Auto Top OffSmart ATO Smart ATO Micro

- Lighting2 x AI Prime EcoTech Radion G3 upgraded to Pro

- Skimmer - Coral Box D300 Plus

- Controller - EcoTech Reeflink

- More to come…

The tank and sump are built and safely tucked away in my garage for now. I'll start on the filter sock holder and custom acrylic sheet to fit the inside back wall of the tank.

Looks like it's going to be a great setup! Keep us posted.

I've got the acrylic panel with overflow slots siliconed to the rear glass and also siliconed a piece of HDPE to the base to avoid any pressure points on the base glass caused by rockwork.

Paint tins are holding the HDPE down as it was slightly bowed.

It's been a while...

The plan was to swap over the contents of the 50l nano to the 175l and hopefully all would be good. Well that didn't happen, mainly due to a sudden and unexpected outbreak of Aiptasia and an algae issue fuelled by a corroding magnet which took me a while to discover. I'm still battling these challenges but gave up waiting to resolve them before setting up the new tank and moved the 50l nano to make space for the 175l.

175l on the stand.

Overflow flexible tubing fitted to bulkheads.

I envy your tank builder. Great craftsmanship!
One thing tho have you considered hard plumbing? Any specific reason behind the flexible tubes?

Thanks for looking. He does really good work and I'm very happy with the build. I'm not hung up on flexible plumbing but just trying to avoid sharp bends and restricting flow.
