Mike's 150 Tall

Good morning everyone!

Hey @sp1187! I’m trying to catch up to you on the zoa and palys…what do you think? ;) There’s a couple I didn’t get pics of yet, but it took me about an hour for all of these so I’m taking a break

The Kind IS an Acan Lorde.

If you're asking if we know what silly name it was given There is really no way other than asking the silly name giver although you Could probably randomly select two words from any given magazine, put them together and it would be close.
sez Earl.

I see the new heads but Those (circled) are the shell /stovepipe for Vermited snails. Pesky little craps. They release a web out of the stove pipe to collect food which they often times also release into the water column. The webbing is a nuisance to corals and can often times be an attributing factor to corals that will not open.

Oh my god this explains so much. I have one growing on the frag the my jawbreaker is on. It constantly has webs coming off of it. I thought it somehow was a part of the mushroom which I couldn’t make sense of. Now I know why. How can I get rid of them? As far as I am aware, they are only on that one hammer, and on the jawbreaker

If you see them on two corals, realistically you've got them all over your rock and just haven't looked for them unless somehow they only came in on those two which is quite unlikely.

The often repeated remedy is to smash/ remove as much as you can then put a dollop of super glue over what's remaining. Bumble bee snails are said to eat them. I've got 30 bumble bees in my tank and hundreds of Vermited snails so not sure about the voracity with which they eat.

I don’t plan on getting any more as of now. My tank is already pretty full and I’m saving space for other things. What caused you to lose so much?

What do the worms themselves look like? I’ve been looking at all of the Euphyllia closely and know there aren’t any flatworms on it. I assume that’s not the works you’re referring to though
seeing a spider web from the worms when you feed?
i've got two in my tank.

I would be surprise if they’re covering the rock. I’m constant looking in my tank and actually just redid almost the entire aquascape (not by choice) today. I didn’t notice a single one on any rocks, but I also wasn’t looking for them. I’ll keep an eye out and update if I see any! I’m definitely going to be looking really closely now

Agree. Take tweezers to them and break as much off as you can and then seal it up with super glue.
i'd pull the frag if you are going to remove the worms.
that way nothing gets lost in the tank.
and this is just me, well.... some others too, take the coral off the plug and glue it direct to the rock.
i hate looking at plugs in my "reef".
i try and remove all plugs that don't have an encrusting coral or a spreading (xenia, gsp, zoas, paly's) that are going to cover them up.

I used worm earlier but that's the wrong term. I meant snail.

I didn't say covering. They are tiny any blend in well. If you actually don't have Any more, I'd do the work to ensure they cannot spread. Search and destroy style.

I never saw a single one in my tank before going fallow. A month in, I noticed 15 on Torch Island. Kept actually looking, and found hundreds. Unsure if the prior inhabitants were eating them, or if I just wasn't looking for them.

This is specifically what I'm talking about.

Pulled this off of a plug this afternoon.

The first time I remember seeing the Vermited Snail is on the shell of my Trochus snail. I thought it was part of the shell. I’m sure that’s how it got in my tank. I’m still not seeing any on the rocks themselves but have hardly looked

trusted my seller (local basement FB) to dip his in coming and out going being his sensei taught him that.
got a case of zoa eating nudi's.
i now dip everything no matter who it's coming from.
