Hi

Bad surprise at wake up this morning , my millepora acropora start to bleach on 2 points.
I bought this piece 2 weeks ago , 2 days after arriving from Indonesia to my reseller.

I placed it Middle to Top in my reef next to other acropora, bleaching is not on same side of the other acropora.

dKH 9-10, pH 7.89.-8.0, sg 1.024-1.025 Mg 1440 Ca 600 under Ecotech radion G3 pro schwing reef template and Vortech pumps

reef tank is 2 years old

could be only stress ??

thanks

Unfortunately this is pretty common in fresh delivered maricultured and wild pieces. My only advise would be to frag off the healthy pieces and hope for the best.

How did you acclimate the piece? Is ot on the sand bed to be light acclimated as well?

thanks for your fast reply , ok bad news :(, for the acclimation i did like usual slowly put water from my tank to transportation bag.
i have no sand , its bare bottom tank . right now coral is located on live rocks middle to top area
you probably right i can lower him down a little and monitor it . if dosent work will have to frag it fast .
thanks for your help

I've tried a bunch of milli's most of them bleached. Im my opinion its a very hard coral to keep all you can do now is frag it out a couple of times but most of the frags will die

thanks for your feedback , my fault I did a stupid beginner mistake , buying without knowing.
You are right i am going to frag it because necrosis is getting worse so quickly

Ah sucks man. Yeah any new acropora I get I place it on the sand or bare bottom for the first few days to a week. I slowly introduce it to the spot where I want it to go and see how it acts. If the tentacles or polyps start receding then I know it is getting ticked.

I would shut your waterflow off and take the coral out and frag it. I would not want tissue to get blown off by the power heads. It cuts the chances of spreading it to other corals. I would also cut into healthy tissue so it hopefully stops the tissue recession on the new frags. Make a few of frags to up your chances of something surviving. That is how I do it and I get good survival rate.

Oh sorry to see that I hope you can save some of it!

ireef86 thanks for your concern :) well , necrosis was going worse , you can see picture above , i just frag it tonight hope to save part of it , will post pics tomorrow here my reef is on moonlight now

The crappy part about these situations is unless you cultured and tested some of the infected tissue you have no real way of knowing what caused it. Protozoa, bacteria or pests can be the trigger for the coral to rtn or stn as a defense response. Any of those have been known to spread to other corals in the currant. I have seen tanks of sps melt like butter once the first one started. It doesn't normally come to that though. That is why I shut my flow off. The best thing you can do right now is minimize any more damage from happening.

yeah exactly . i did cut yesterday all necrosis parts on coral frag a little , this morning at wake up everything bleach overnight . i think the rest will no survive either . luckily other corals looks fine

pic of this morning after yesterday cuts

I hope you get it to stop. It sucks when this happens. Check for signs of AEFW on your other corals. A guy who I know had his rtn after the flatworm spread. He just lost over $1000 in frags. Including his RR jaw dropper, pink and blue matrix, pink Floyd, barney and a bunch more.. :'(

i am going to remove the ultimate frag from the tank , doesnt look good still necrosis and now necrosis is going on acropora next to the dying coral  . dangit
