Neither of those really look like millies to me.
What do they look like to you?
They are both millipora.
Polyp extension can be due to a number of factors, nutrients, flow, lighting etc. Though variate, tell-tale millipora “Long polyps” do not always extend fully for the previously stated reasons and more.
I agree. Neither of them have the proper corallite structure. MAYBE the first one could be, but it’s a long shot. Millepora radial corallites are very compact and close together, and very uniform in shape, usually looking like a half cup shape. The axial corallites are tubular, which is what makes me think the first one is also not a millepora.Neither of those really look like millies to me.
This is the site your looking for. Species description with lots of pics of each. https://coral.aims.gov.au/factsheet.jsp?speciesCode=0047I’ll admit, 6 years of sps keeping and I still cannot tell the subtle differences between Millies and the several others that look just like them. Fairly certain most of what I’ve been sold as Millies aren’t even millies. It would be helpful if there was some sort of pictorial guide to distinguish similar looking acros mike Millie, prostrata, spathulata, ect. I’m sure there’s a dozen other species easily confused with each other in this group
