Milli's fusing or fighting?

It looks like its covering it more then its trying to kill it?....
I tried to grow a Milli on to of a red chef and the shelf grew faster the the milli likes and in the end the red shelf just covered the milli...
It was cool to see tho...

Take a nail file and use it like a saw to saw though both corals and u can put it on a frag and let its do its thing. That way u don't run the risk of one day it deciding to attack and kill a big stick of it. don't snap it off tho... Just a thought.

Good idea. I hadn't thought of sawing through it. I do have access to a jewler's saw. I think that'd work. Something to think about.

It is an offensive mechanism. The encrusting coral is doing the same thing that many corals like monti's do, it is simply growing over and around the competition. They are not fusing or undergoing any sort of chemical warfare. The encrusting coral is simply winning the growth race and is "growing over" the competition. It will continue to grow over, develop walls around, above and over the competition. This is a slow race but given enough time you can already see the winner. You may or may not intercede, it is a slow process and cool to watch the shape that the encrusting will take. But, alas, they are not joining (fusing) into a new coral

+1 I had two milli's that were doing the same thing and I was hoping that I'd get a morph but after 3months I noticed who won the war because one milli was now growing over and down the other milli. The species have to very similar to create a hybrid, if it was that easy we'd all be doing it lol, I know I would be.
I would cut a inch or so from each and re-mount it at the same height and location and see what happens.

Here is a picture from my tank where you can see one acro (blueberry fields) growing over and onto another acro (Cousin of strawberry shortcake). There is no apparent stinging going on, just encrusting and eventually dominating its acro neighbor. I have seen this phenomenon among various millies, acros, and montis.

I would keep the small section where they are connecting in tact, just frat em and see what happens
