I just received a Milwaukee MA887 digital refractometer and I calibrated it using the distilled water that it comes with and then I tested it against the test solution that it comes with. The test solution is supposed to be 1.025 SG but it reads it as 1.027. I tried recalibrating it again and again the test solution read as 1.027. I then used the test solution in my refractometer that I have had for years and it also showed the solution was 1.027. Is it probable that the solution is higher than than label shows? Since they both show the same salinity I'd think they would be right.

Also for anyone who uses the MA887, how often do you calibrate it, and when you calibrate it do you use distilled water or just some of your rodi water?

Its likely imo the solution is off. Keep in mind the precision of this device isnt super precise. Is it 2%?

Same situation back when I had bought mine, I'm certain that the calibration solution that they provided was off, bc I compared the my water with my lfs and I got readings of 1.026ppt for both. I usually just calibrate with RODI water.
