On a roll and not in a good way and looking for some guidance again. I added my Mimic tang to DT on Friday, shortly after it started scratching its side on the sand bed. The next day it had some markings and I thought likely from that and read on here sometimes new tanks and stuff in water mess with gills, that and fact it was a bully and a few pushed it away I thought fine give it a day. That day I didn't see it scratching any and the marks cleared up a little. but again yesterday and today it appears to be scratching on sand bed more and the markings are back. I'm sure its probably hard to tell much from these picture but the fish is full of energy still, no loss of appetite and if it wasn't for the marking or the scratching there is nothing to bring any cause for concern so I'm unsure where to go from here.

Scratching is usually a sign of a pest of some sort bothering the fish. Did you qt the fish before adding it to your dt? The marks kind of look like black ich, but it's hard to tell. Best bet would be to get it out if you can and put it back into quarantine for observation. #reefsquad may have more knowledge.

He was in QT for about 10 day for observation prior to the DT where everything looked fine and he was acting fine. All started after going into DT

Is anybody else in the dt showing symptoms

On a white fish it’s tough to see visible parasites. Any other fish scratching? Flashing? Hiding from light? Loss of appetite? Flashing? Heavy breathing? Swimming in to powerheads? Cloudy eyes or marks on eyes?

The issue with observing in quarantine is that many fish can mask velvet and ich well, for up to 30 days, pretty readily. Flukes is also a possibility, as is an infection based on the face and other markings (reddish coloring in two splotches up top and near the tail).

We will need more information.

No other others doing anything out of the norm and this one aside from scratching hasn't either, it continues to eat non stop on algae and will eat frozen and pellet food as well. The two markings head and above eye and close to the tail appear more black to me and best I could describe would be like a bruise. That is the only side that has had marks, there were some others after the first day that went away. every once in a while its as if he turn a little side ways next to another fish almost like its showing them. I know it probably sounds weird but best way I could explain it. It was at the lfs for 3 weeks prior to my purchase as well with no signs of anything

Update - Borrowed another QT from a friend as my normal one has other fish in it, spent about an hour trying to catch the fish but was able to catch the sucker (First time I have had to catch one in DT, glad it wasn't the firefish). I will see how things look as days progress and update from there.
