Has anyone seen one before? My LFS has one. Been there for about 3 weeks and looking great. It has new shell growth and growing in lights at 100 par. Thinking about grabbing it. I know it's a hybrid and the mantle patterns look like a Maxima but the shell looks like a Squamosa.

I really don't think it's a hybrid but clams can have a unique mantle and that gives sellers an opportunity to say hybrid. The shell, incurrent siphon, eyes, byssaly opening will help identify the clam. If looks good and you like it then I'd get it.

I like biota but there's a reason why it says likely and we believe. I don't believe it's been genetically proven. Doesn't mean it's not a sweet clam, we might end up with one. It's when I see sellers charge double for a "hybrid" clam when it can't be proven that bothers me. Biota is awesome and were going to be taking a tour of their facility in Florida soon. The shell definitely says squamosa and they are sweet. If the price is right then I would not hesitate.

The mantle definitly looks like a Maxima. The shell has scutes like a squamosa. The price was only $150 which seemed a bit cheap since I would put it in the same category as a Blue Squamosa.

Wow those are cool. I would pay 150 in a heartbeat.
Biota has some pretty cool stuff, I believe they have some wild looking crocea too. Did you see the derasa Pacific east had a while back? Scutes on the shell and had spots on the mantle.

I follow them about everywhere and missed that one! Well good for me to have not seen it. Was just thinking my sump needs one...
