cold is not an issue unless it is allowed to freeze in the membrane causing it to stretch and fracture. you dont want to get it too hot because you can melt the membrane.
i know freezing it would most likly crack the plastic, but i \t water comes from a line in my basment and it is freezing for some reason i dont know why. This makes perfect sence to me. Do not know if there is an absolute lowest temp that should be avoided but you surely do not want it to freeze up.
I've always heard in the past that its best to have the water little warmer, say room temp, when going through the unit, as thats when the membrane works more efficiently. I remember people putting hot/warm water below their setup, and run the water through it first to warm it up.
Is it turning to ice in the top off bucket? take a thermometer to it and you will be surprised. the water temp in the tap could be 40 degrees and feel ice cold to us. yet it still is not cold enough to do damage to the membrane. it just wont flow as well thru the membrane. I can noticeably tell a difference between summer and winter water with my RODI.
if the lines arent freezing down, I would say you are not damaging it, but it will take longer to make water. usually in the winter, I adjust to a 3-1 or 2-1 ratio for my system. I have only 50PSI at the faucet so I know I am not hurting it.
And if he is, more power to him, haha.Man, that was on RC a few years ago, probably be able to search it out on there. I never did it, but I saw a bunch of people who did.
To me, it sounds like the same concept of having the proper water pressure. Too low of pressure doesn't allow the membrane to work at its most efficient level.
Yea just usedf my RK temp prob on a bucket of fresh made RO it came in at 23 lol i was shocked it went that low i knew it was cold though. Is it turning to ice in the top off bucket? take a thermometer to it and you will be surprised. the water temp in the tap could be 40 degrees and feel ice cold to us. yet it still is not cold enough to do damage to the membrane. it just wont flow as well thru the membrane. cold water just takes longer to go thru the membrane.
+1. I've never heard of cold water damaging a membrane, but I know hot water is bad.
